Circuit bending research
The tutorial below was extremely helpful for this project. Our team wouldn't have gotten as far as we did without it. It even made me think about what I should wear when circuit bending. I wonder if the cowboy hat is present for safety reasons?

Experiments in Art and Technology
Our first project is to create an instrument using circuit bending in collaboration with other students. Our group has two MFA's, myself, and Celine Browning, and one undergraduate engineering student Pat Cody. We've come up with a necklace for our performance that will use a series of six chipboard boxes with laser-cut illustrations. Inside the boxes will be circuits taken from singing birthday and greeting cards which are bent using photo-resistors and potentiometers. This will allow us to perform an "open score" using the light and space in the room around the wearer. Celine will be performing wearing the necklace and Pat and I will be her roadies in the background, triggering the circuits and adjusting the light, switches and volume. Posted above are the plans for the boxes and illustrations. I'll follow up with more images soon!
